At MANGA DOJO TOKYO, located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, we offer a special educational program that combines a hands-on manga workshop with a career talk by a professional manga artist.
This program is designed for students visiting Tokyo on school trips, giving them a chance to experience Japanese pop culture while learning about creative careers.
A Memorable Experience for Elementary Students

This time, a group of 30 elementary school students from another region of Japan joined our special program.
They enjoyed both the practical manga drawing session and the opportunity to hear directly from a professional manga artist about what it’s like to work in the industry.
During the workshop, students used their imagination freely to create original works — drawing, designing characters, and expressing their ideas through manga.
🎙️ Career Talk by Professional Manga Artist Kazuo Maekawa

The session was led by Kazuo Maekawa, the manga artist best known for his work on Ace Attorney.
With over 30 years of professional experience, Mr. Maekawa shared his personal journey as a manga creator and gave students an authentic look into the manga industry.
His talk covered topics such as:
- The joys and challenges of being a manga artist
- What a real manga production site looks like
- How he first decided to pursue this career
- How manga creation and income systems work
Through these insights, students learned about the real-life aspects of a creative profession, broadening their perspectives on future careers.
✏️ Creative Workshop Activities

Students participated in several engaging exercises, including:
- Learning how to design their own original characters
- Creating four-panel manga to express their school trip memories
- Drawing manga-style portraits of each other in pairs
These activities encouraged creativity, expression, and collaboration, giving students a meaningful and enjoyable artistic experience.
